HOLOCAUST PACKAGE MAILING RECEIPTS (5) - HOLOCAUST PACKAGE MAILING RECEIPTS (5) Lot of five mailing receipts for care packages sent to prisoners at several different Nazi concentration camps. 1) One receipt for a package sent to Dachau, the first Nazi concentration camp located in southern Germany, canceled at Prague on 9 March 1942. 2) One return receipt from Theresienstadt, a hybrid concentration camp and ghetto in the fortress town Terezín, located in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. It bears a stamp from the Jewish Administration Theresienstadt (Juedische Selbstverwaltung Theresienstadt) postal department and a receiving stamp, 10 June 1943, from Bauschowitz a. d. Eger (Bohusovice nad Ohri), the train station for the arriving camp transports. 3) One receipt with a cancelation stamp, dated 1943, from Birkenau, the largest of more than 40 camps and sub-camps that made up the Auschwitz complex in occupied Poland. 4) Two canceled receipts, one for sending 20 Reichsmark and another for a registered mail piece, both dated 1942, sent to inmates at the concentration camp Hodonin u Kunstatu (Hodonin bei Kunstadt). Located in a tiny village in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in the Czech Republic and established in 1940 as a penal labor camp for 'anti-social elements, ' this site officially became a 'gypsy camp' in March 1942, a de facto concentration camp for Romani that served as a transfer station on the way to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
