LAURENCE OLIVIER
(1907-1989). British actor and director best known for his interpretations of Shakespeare's Othello and Richard III and including Hamlet for which he won an Academy Award. TLS on his personal letterhead, 1 page, Stratford on Avon, September 11, 1959, 7 x 5 in., to Captain Pilkington, in part: 'It is most kind to invite my wife and myself to be guests of honour at the Melton Mowbray Ball...My wiife will be appearing in a play in London at that time and I shall be filming and would not be able to get to Nottingham.' Signed at conclusion in blue ink.
