Bidspirit auction | Chinese Eagle Scroll Painting -
Chinese Eagle Scroll Painting - Ronald Reagan Visi - Chinese ink and color painting depicting a powerful eagle perched among rugged rocks and pine, executed with expressive calligraphic brushwork and mounted as a large hanging scroll with patterned brocade borders. The vertical inscription includes a poetic reference to the eagle's vigorous and heroic bearing and appears to state that the work was created in connection with President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan's visit to China, dated April 1984. Reagan's official visit to China took place April 26-May 1, 1984. The inscription appears to reference Fuzhou, and the work bears a red artist's seal beneath the calligraphy. An unusual Chinese presentation or commemorative painting with a particularly interesting connection to the 1984 Reagan China visit. Appears in good overall condition with some creasing/wrinkling and light age-related wear to the paper and mounting. 71” x 26 3/4”.
