19th C Mahogany Traveling Writing Slope Desk - Elegant 19th century English traveling writing slope desk crafted of richly figured mahogany with brass corner guards, strapping, and a brass monogram cartouche to the lid. The interior retains its original black writing surface and features a fitted compartment with two original glass inkwells, pen tray, lidded storage compartment, and concealed document compartment beneath the writing surface. The lower section opens to reveal a spacious storage well for correspondence and writing materials. Includes the original key, and the lock has been tested and is in working condition. A handsome example of a Victorian portable writing desk, designed for travel or use in a gentleman's study. Presents well with expected age-related wear, light surface scratches, and minor losses to the writing surface consistent with use. Measures 18” x 10 1/2” x 7 1/2”.
