Bidspirit auction | WWII Japanese Rayon Hinomaru Flag

WWII Japanese Rayon Hinomaru Flag - We believe this artifact is a mid-to-late World War II-era Japanese national flag (Hinomaru), constructed from a lightweight, machine-woven synthetic rayon fabric. The textile features a distinctive bright orange-hued central sun disc printed onto a cream-white field. Under close inspection, the fabric displays a highly uniform, mechanical open-grid weave pattern that exhibits a neat ”laddering” separation of threads along the seams rather than the organic fraying typical of natural silk or cotton. The hoist corners are reinforced with triangular tabs made of dark brown textured faux leather, which are secured with contrast machine stitching and equipped with flat, woven fabric attachment cords. Approx. measures 37 x 28 inches CONDITION: Heavy overall creasing with scattered light spotting and discoloration to the white field. Localized thread separation and laddering, loose threads, minor edge fraying, and wear to the corner tabs and ties.
