Japanese Katana with Black Lacquer Saya - Japanese katana comprising a curved, single-edged steel blade in civilian-style koshirae. The mounts include a brass habaki, circular iron tsuba, ray-skin-covered tsuka with black textile wrap and floral menuki, and a black-lacquered saya. Blade measures 28 3/8 inches; 43 inches overall with scabbard. CONDITION: Blade has numerous pronounced chips and nicks along the cutting edge, with scratches, polishing marks, and scattered oxidation and staining. The black-lacquered saya has scuffs, scratches, and small finish losses. The tsuka wrap is loose, displaced, and frayed near the pommel. Metal fittings show oxidation and finish wear. The bamboo mekugi removes, but the tsuka does not readily separate from the blade and was not forced; the tang has not been examined.
