Collection of antisemitic postcards. Early 20th century
17 antisemitic postcards. Various publishers and places, early 20th century.
Among them: a postcard from the "Little Cohen" series, postcards against Emile Zola, antisemitic postcards issued in Eastern countries, "The Camel", the stinking Jew, the Levy family, the "Bet on Everything" postcard mocking the Eastern European Jew immigrating to Argentina, the postcard of the "Jew" rock in Tonkin Bay in China and others. The stereotypical long-nosed figure of the Jew was so common around the world in the early 20th century that in a seemingly innocent postcard depicting an island in Tonkin Bay in China it is described as a 'Jew' because of the long nose shape obtained when viewed from afar. The title of the postcard bears the name of the channel: Chanel de l'Hamelin with the words 'Le Juif' - 'The Jew'. In the bay stretching over 480 km there are about 3000 islands made of limestone like the one before us. The different islands bear names according to their shape 'The Elephant', 'The Fighter', and in this postcard "The Jew".
Six of them were mailed. Very good condition.
