Beata Klarsfeld (born February 13, 1939) is a German-French journalist known for her struggle to expose and punish Nazi war criminals. Together with her husband Serge Klarsfeld, Beate Klarsfeld was able to detect with the help of detailed documentation many war crimes committed by the Nazis and to follow in the footsteps of those who managed to escape punishment at the end of World War II, including Kurt Lishka, Alois Brunner, Klaus Barbie, Ernest Ellers, Kurt Esha and others.  In 1974, she received the Ghetto Fighters' Medal of Courage and was nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize. In February 2012 she was nominated as a candidate on behalf of the Di Linke party for the presidency of Germany. In 2016, Aryeh Deri - the then Minister of the Interior - granted her Israeli citizenship in recognition of her significant contribution to the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
