Six antisemitic German mark banknotes. Germany, 1922-1923

6 banknotes 1000 German marks 1922 with antisemitic cartoon stamped on them, Germany.

Among them: the Jew with a stereotypical face threatening the Aryan woman, a swastika punched a Jew in stereotypical face, Jews with a two-faced figure, a bill with a cartoon against the Jewish press in Germany, and more.

Inflation in Germany in the 1920s had many causes, but as in many moments of crisis in history, anti-Semites were convinced that the "rich Jews" were responsible for the economic crisis. The stereotype of the Jew exploiting the weak and the moments of crisis to get rich was very common in Germany in the years after the First World War. At that time it was common to print many antisemitic cartoons on ordinary banknotes (see also examples in the National Library collection).

Banknotes 1000 Mark 8.5X16 cm. Five banknotes have red serial numbers, one banknotes green serial number. Very good condition.
