Van de Velde's Journey to the Land of Israel (1852) - Limited Edition

Van de Velde's Journey to the Land of Israel (1852) by Eliyahu HaCohen (winner of the Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement 2013) - a limited edition of only 100 copies. Jerusalem 2018.

A monumental Essay that collects about fifty of Van de Welde's rare paintings on his travels to Eretz Israel, which are published here for the first time from the author's collection as well as from the collection of the late Michael Greenspon. The author preceded an overview of Van de Velde's journey to the Land of Israel in 1852. In Van de Velde's elegant album released in 1857, his paintings of the Land of Israel were concentrated. The album came out in one limited edition, hence its very rarity. Van de Velde's uniqueness in that he painted side paths in the country's landscapes and remote places that did not stand on the main road, in his paintings van de Velde gave unique visual documentation to sites that his predecessors such as David Roberts and Bartlett did not document in their paintings.
