American Electric Oak Wall Telephone - This antique Turn-of-the-Century oak wall telephone was manufactured by the American Electric Telephone Co. of Chicago, Illinois, featuring a brass scissor/accordion extension arm transmitter, side hand crank, receiver, and lower slant-top battery box. Equipped with an adjustable extension arm, phones of this style were designed for environments like railway dispatch offices, signal towers, and commercial trading desks where operators needed to pull the transmitter forward to speak while keeping their hands free. The backboard and cabinet display rich oak graining, original brass hardware, internal generator components, and manufacturer nameplates. Showing honest age-appropriate wear, including light surface scratches, finish variation on the wood, oxidation and tarnish to the metal elements, and minor fraying to the cloth-covered wiring, the unit remains in complete, display-ready aesthetic condition.
