J.H. Bunnell Telegraph Sounder Resonator - An early 20th-century telegraph sounder and wooden resonator on a cast iron pedestal stand. Manufactured by J.H. Bunnell & Co. of New York, the brass and steel telegraph sounder is marked ”W.U. TEL. CO. SOUNDER 1-B 400 OHM” for Western Union Telegraph Company. The unit is housed in a slanted wooden sound-amplifying resonator hood mounted on a heavy black cast iron base. Shows age-appropriate wear including tarnishing to metal components, paint loss on the coils, surface scuffs and finish loss to the wooden housing, and wear to the base plate, but remains structurally sound with all major original components intact.
