Bidspirit auction | Kellogg Modified Oak Crank Wall

Kellogg Modified Oak Crank Wall Phone - Manufactured in Chicago, Illinois, by the Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Company during the early 20th century, this antique oak wall telephone represents a classic example of early American telephony history. Built with a quartersawn oak cabinet, dual external nickel-plated bells, an adjustable transmitter arm bearing the embossed ”KELLOGG” name, and an external writing shelf, it showcases traditional period craftsmanship. This particular example has been modified for modern operational adaptability, featuring an internal rotary dial mechanism mounted behind an aluminum faceplate, outfitted with a USOC Jack RJ11 connection sticker, and upgraded internal ear/speaker wiring while retaining its non-working external crank handle and magnetic door latch. Overall, the woodwork and metal hardware display honest age-related wear, surface scuffs, finish crazing, and minor patination consistent with age and long-term storage; the unit remains untested.
