Western Electric Morse Telegraph Relay - An early 20th-century Western Electric 4-C telegraph Morse relay instrument, manufactured in New York, NY, stamped ”MORSE RELAY 4-C 150 OHMS” on the upper composition mounting plate and cast ”WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY N.Y.R.S. 3 28” on the underside of the heavy iron base. Featuring dual vertical electromagnetic coils, brass binding posts, and an adjustable spring-tension armature, this piece represents classic early railroad and telegraphic communication hardware. Physical condition shows age-appropriate wear including paint loss and light oxidation to the cast iron base, flaking and loss to the black paper coil coverings, patina and tarnishing to the brass hardware, and minor edge wear along the upper plate.
