Instituted 29Sep1941 designed to bridge the gap between the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. The Gold version recognized repeated outstanding acts of military bravery or combat leadership. Fabric backing option was officially produced for active combat uniforms to allow field commanders and soldiers to wear without it getting caught or damaged in combat environments. The material for this badge was used for Panzer (Tank) troops to blend in seamlessly with their black uniforms. There is a paper backing. 3” diameter. Please see photos.
