Bidspirit auction | 19th-Century Campaign Field Trunk

19th-Century Campaign Field Trunk - 19th-century campaign-style officer's field trunk constructed from solid wood, featuring inset brass corner brackets, hardware strapping, and heavy iron drop-handles on either side. The chest utilizes a distinct two-drawer configuration adorned with carved wooden bullseye roundel pulls and built-in brass escutcheon locks. Purported to be a Civil War officer's trunk, it lacks documented provenance to confirm official military issue. The chest exhibits a heavily weathered, authentic aged patina throughout; the top surface shows significant dark staining, finish loss, and deep scuffing, while the side panels show dark liquid drip stains and minor wood separation. The drawers are structurally functional and open smoothly, though no keys accompany the locks, and the interior drawer wells show evidence of a past painted wash and typical historic storage wear. H 18”, W 33.5”, D 16”. From the collection of Dale Beeks. Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available Post-Auction.
