1961 Chrysler Newport 4 door 'Barn Find” - VIN: 8113204634 Miles: 48,147 Engine: V8 Chrysler revived the Newport name for their new, full-size entry-level model for 1961. Newport was successful and comprised the bulk of Chrysler production. This Newport has the 361 cu in (Code A2) V8 ”Firebolt” [which was called a ”Golden Lion” in the Newport] engine rated at 265 hp, backed by the venerable TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic with push-button controls. This drivetrain won the 1961 Mobilgas Economy Run at nearly 20 mpg! The distinguished canted headlights were unique to Chrysler in 1961 and featured an open-mouth chrome grille wider at the top. One of the most incredible and sought after features of this iconic cruiser is the 'Astrodome cluster' with blue-glowing electroluminescent gauges with side levers for turn signals, and it was the final year for Virgil Exner's dramatic tailfins! This is all packaged with above-bumper taillights, a ribbed trunk lid, and unitized body construction (unibody) with sculpted sides. This may be the final year of what could be considered 'The Forward Look' Chryslers.
