1920s Papier-Mache Raleigh Cigarettes Display Bust - 1920s Papier-Mache Raleigh Cigarettes Display Bust, produced during the late 1920s, intricately crafted from molded and hand-painted papier-mache, figure is a portrayal of Sir Walter Raleigh, the 16th-century English explorer who famously popularized tobacco in Europe and became the iconic namesake mascot for the Raleigh cigarette brand, no major distortion, no water damage, hand-painted finish appear authentic with age-toning, gold trim and lettering remain crisp, perimeter of the wide brim hat shows minor edge separation, tiny fractures, paint flaking, base has a small crack/indentation, flat bottom surface shows an open hollow cavity, very good antique condition, see photos. 15” x 10” This highly fragile, scarce display has survived with its historical character entirely intact and should command substantial interest with the tobacciana and advertising collectors...very few examples have survived to the present day!
