Soviet Medal of Nakhimov (Named) - Medal of Nakhimov. Good condition, in plastic sleeve, Established 03March1944 under Joseph Stalin. Named in honor of Admiral Pavel Nakhimov a Russian naval commander famous for leading forces during the 1853 Battle of Sinop and the Siege of Sevastopol in the Crimean War. Awarded exclusively to personnel within the Soviet Navy, Naval Infantry, and naval units of the Border Troops; sailkors, petty officers, and sergeants who demonstrated exceptional courage and bravery during naval combat missions or while defending maritime boundaries, while performing military duties that carried an active risk to life. Served as the Naval equivalent to the Red Army's Medal For Courage. Discontinued following the dissolution of the USSR. 2603 engraved on the bottom of the outer edge indicating it was awarded during WWII to Red Navy Sailor Grigory Mikhailovich Koryagin 21July1945. 3.5” long, 2” wide (medal); sleeve 5” long, 2.25” wide.
