Soviet Medals-60 Yr. Jubilee, Ushakov - 1. Jubilee Medal 60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR. Good condition. Instituted 28Jan1978 by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet to mark the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Soviet Red Army and Navy in 1918. Awarded to active duty military personnel, veterans of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), and officers across all branches of the Soviet military and state security. 3.5” long, 1.75” wide. 2. Medal of Ushakov. Good condition. Respected naval military decoration originally created by the Soviet Union 03March1944. Named in the honor of Admiral Fyodor Ushakov 18th century Russian commander who never lost a battle and is the patron saint of the Russian Navy. Originally introduced during WWII to honor enlisted sailors, petty officers, and warrant officers of the Soviet Navy and Naval infantry for demonstrating personal courage and bravery in maritime theaters. Following dissolution of the USSR the medal was retained in 1994 by the Russian Federation. The Russian government also award it to Allied veterans including British, Canadian, and American mariners for their extreme bravery during the Arctic Convoys of WWII. There is a serial number on the back 10656 indicating this medal was awarded near the end of WWII most likely in the spring of 1945 (April or May1945). 4” long, 1.75” wide. Please see photos.
