US M1880 Springfield Knife & RIA Type 4 Scabbard - An authentic Indian Wars era U.S. Army Model 1880 entrenching hunting knife, manufactured by Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts, featuring a turned ribbed hardwood handle, cast brass crossguard, and a broad single-edged steel blade with a median ridge. The brass crossguard is stamped ”U.S. SPRINGFIELD” on the obverse and serial numbered ”1710” on the reverse, displaying clear evidence of an over-stamped original number ”1700”. Accompanied by an original Type 4 leather scabbard featuring a brass guard mount and a brass swivel belt hanger stamped ”R.I.A.” on the reverse for Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. The blade is bright and clean with minimal blemishes, showing light age-appropriate surface wear, minor scuffing, and small edge nicks without structural loss, while the brass hardware displays a pleasing natural patina. The Type 4 leather scabbard remains exceptionally sound and supple with expected light surface crazing near the swivel joint. H 15”, W 3.5”, D 1.25”. Please see photos for condition.
