1851-1872 US MAJ GEN Epaulette Set-WOW! - Massive cased epaulette set for a United States Regular Army Major General circa 1851-1872. The pair comes in its original functional case, with black finish on the exterior and bright gold toned interior. There is a central oval shaped compartment that opens and serves as a central pedestal to elevate the epaulettes. Scratches, minor dings and wear visible, but overall clean. There are no label or markings anywhere on the case. Case measurements: 5.5” x 7”x 9.75”. The epaulette pair are in fairly good condition. Each is marked either “LEFT” or “RIGHT” on brass attachment plates. The pads are present, but the right one has shattered silk lining of the pillow and is fragile. The wall is also detached The condition of the left pillow’s silk is good and stable. Both have rich Red Moroccan leather undersides. The upper visible portions of the epaulettes exhibit quite well. Aside from some silver bullion thread décor on the smaller stars, they are remarkably complete. The gold bullion main surface and edging is complete and in stable condition. The metal arcs on each side exhibit little to no scratches. The coiled gold bullion threads that hang below are in excellent condition with no kinks or loss of integrity. The gold button on the central edge of the piece has a federal eagle clutching arrows and olive branch. Each one measures 8” long x 5” wide x 4.5” tall.
