Red Cross Medals/Badges (3) - 1. British Red Cross Society Proficiency in Red Cross First Aid Medal. Instituted 1914. Good condition in heavy plastic sleeve on card. Awarded to Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) members and personnel who successfully passed consecutive advanced examinations. Awarded throughout WWI before being officially discontinued in 1968. To qualify for the badge a member had to pass 3 successive examinations in their respective subject area, First Aid, Nursing, or Hygiene with a strict interval of at least 12 months between each qualification. Maker's mark on back of bar appears to be J.R. Gaunt, London. Medal 3.75” long, 1.5” wide; Card 4.5” long, 2” wide, Sleeve 4.75” long, 2.75” wide. 2. Stamp on back of badge indicates the recipient is M. Higginbotham registered under the unique membership number 24207. Medal 4” long, 1.5” wide, Card 4.5” long, 2” wide, Sleeve 5” long, 2.25” wide. 3. WWI Red Cross Automotive & Mechanics Section (ARC A & MS) Medal. Aged condition with tears and staining on ribbon and oxidation on medal, on card in heavy plastic sleeve. Awarded to ambulance drivers, mechanics, and chauffeurs who served with the American Red Cross motor corps during the final year of the Great War (WWI). Medal 3.5” long, 1.75” wide; Card 4.25” long, 2” wide; Sleeve 4.75” long, 2.25” wide. Please see photos.
