WWI Trench Art British Mark IV Tank Inkwell - This heavy cast brass desk accessory is a quintessential example of Great War commemorative art, almost certainly designed as an inkwell for a veteran’s or officer’s desk. The rhomboid British Mark IV ”Male” tank is masterfully depicted cresting a ridge of ”No Man's Land,” physically crushing a German Pickelhaube (spiked helmet) and a shattered artillery wheel into the textured earth. The hinged hatch on top reveals a rectangular void that would have originally housed a glass or ceramic ink pot. The piece boasts an authentic, deep brass patina that settles into the rivets and track treads, giving it remarkable visual weight and historical gravity. The condition is excellent, with the metal showing expected age-related toning and minor surface character marks, while the hinge remains fully functional.
