WWII German Wound Badge - WWII German Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen). Good condition. Military decoration for recognizing injuries sustained in combat. Created during WWI by Kaiser Wilhelm II, reintroduced by Adolf Hitler 01Sep1939.Functions similarly to the US Purple Heart. There are 3 classes: Gold (1st Class) for 5 or more wounds, severe permanent disability, or posthumously to the families of soldiers killed in action; Silver (2nd Class) for 3 or 4 wounds, or for more significant permanent injuries such as loss of a hand, foot, or eye; and Black (3rd Class) awarded for 1 or 2 wounds. Code stamped on the back indicates production by Friedrich Orth in Vienna (Wien) Austria. 1.75” tall, 1.5” wide. Please see photos.
