Civil War Maine 26th Vol Inf. GAR Medals - This grouping is a poignant collection of American Civil War veteran memorabilia, specifically centered around a soldier from the 26th Maine Volunteer Infantry, Company E. The lot features a four-tier silver-toned ladder badge identifying the unit, a bronze Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) membership star with the serial number W1410 stamped on the edge (with eagle and crossed cannons upper portion of the medal), a smaller gold-toned and enameled GAR veteran pendant. These pieces represent the fraternal pride of the late 19th-century veteran experience. The items show a handsome, authentic patina consistent with age; the ladder badge has some surface oxidation and tarnish, while the GAR star shows heavy darkening to the bronze.
