Cross of Honour of the German Mother & Heer Patch - 1. Cross of Honour of the German Mother (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter or Mutterkreuz). Good condition. A civilian state decoration instituted in Nazi Germany 16Dec1938. Award was part of a state propaganda initiative designed to encourage Aryan women to have large families and increase the population of the Third Reich. Only women who met strict racial, genetic, and ideological criteria defined by the regime as ”German blooded” and ”worthy” were eligible. The decoration was conferred annually on Mother's Day in 3 tiers: 1st Class / Gold awarded to eligible mothers with 8 or > children; 2nd Class / Silver awarded to eligible mothers with 6-7 children; 3rd Class / Bronze awarded to eligible mother's with 4-5 children. Text on the front is DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER (To the German Mother). On the back is the date 16Dec1938 and a facsimile of Adolf Hitler's signature. This is the reverse side of a Type 2 version manufactured from mid-1939 until the end of the war. 8.5” long, 1.5”wide. 2. WWII German Army (Heer) Uniform Breast Eagle Patch (Brustadler). Good condition. The eagle has outstretched wings clutching a wreathed canted swastika in its talons. This seems to be a patch for enlisted men and non-commissioned officers (NCOs). This appears to be a machine woven BeVo pattern patch. These patches were sewn directly above the right breast pocket of the field tunic (Feldbluse0. 4” long, 2” wide. Please see photos.
