Bidspirit auction | U.S. Model 1851 Sword Belt

U.S. Model 1851 Sword Belt & Buckle - This authentic Civil War-era U.S. Model 1851 enlisted or non-commissioned officer issue. Features a cast brass ”Eagle” and the E Pluribus Unum motto. The belt is constructed of heavy black bridle leather. Notably, the rear of the clasp is stamped with ”24” and the maker's mark ”H.A.S.,” The patina on this brass particularly striking; it has that deep, uncleaned mustard tone that purists crave. The belt represents the standard of the Union officer corps, though makers like H.A.S. provided essential hardware throughout the conflict. The leather exhibits heavy age-related crazing, surface cracking, and minor fraying to the stitching. The brass hardware displays a deep, natural patina with visible verdigris on the rivet, and the leather is pliable and stable. A very nice example for your collection! H 2”, W 30.25”, D 0.25”.
