Medals 2 WWI, Bronze Star, Navy Marine, German Am - 1. 2-WWI Called to the Colors city / county homecoming service medals. Good condition, worn ribbons. These were custom struck locally by communities across the US to honor residents who registered for or were inducted into the military draft. When the US entered WWI the federal government enacted the Selective Service Act of 1917 to build up the military. Rather then receiving official federal decorations for the draft itself many individual towns, cities, or counties commissioned local jewelers (such as Schwaab Stamp & Seal Co. in Wisconsin) to produce custom commemorative medals for their hometown heroes. Both of these medals have Called to the Colors on the front, and 1 has June 5, 1917 and the other has Jun 5, 1918, 05June1917 marks the 1st official US WWI draft registration day when all men 21-31 were required to register. On both medals on the back have PRESENTED BY THE CITIZENS OF GREEN BAY WIS US on the back. Both are also marked on the back SCHWAAB MILWAUKEE for the manufacturer. 3.25” long, 1.5” wide. 2. US Bronze Star Medal. Good condition. Awarded to members of the US Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. Established 1944 and can be retroactively awarded for actions dating back to 07Dec1941 (attack on Pearl Harbor). The Oak Leaf Cluster attached to the ribbon represents an additional award of the exact same decoration. The inscription on the back is HEROIC OR MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT. 2.75” long, 1.5” wide. 3. Navy and Marine Corps Medal. Good condition. Highest non-combat decoration awarded for heroism by the US Department of the Navy. Instituted by an Act of Congress 07Aug1942 and made retroactive to 06Dec1941. Recognizes service members who distinguish themselves by extraordinary heroism not involving actual conflict with an armed enemy. Famous recipients include John F. Kennedy for his actions as commander of PT-109 during WWII and Master Diver Carl Brashear. There is a stamp LI-GI on the crimp brooch bar. This is the maker's mark for Lord's Industries. 2.75” long, 1.5” wide. 4. Localized Bilingual Community Badge. Good condition, some wear on ribbon. The top suspension bar has the name APPLETON. This badge was issued to a delegate representing the Appleton Wisconsin branch at the state wide summit 1912.. The stamp on the front is D.R.K.S.V. WISCONSIN for Der Deutsch-Romisch-Katholische Center-Verein (The German Roman Catholic State Federation). The text on the back is SCHWAAB S. & S. CO. MILWAUKEE for the maker's mark Schwaab Stamp & Seal Company. Text in the center on the back in English is 13th State Convention / Assembly 27-29May1912. 3.5” long, 1.75” wide. Please see photos.
