The blade exhibits a deep, honest patina and localized oxidation consistent with prolonged field use in tropical environments. The leather sheath is dry with surface cracking and age-related wear, though the hand-carved historical identifiers remain clearly legible. Research into veteran records identifies the owner as Staff Sergeant Darl ”Whitey” O'Harrow (1923–1993), a career Marine whose documented combat history confirms his participation in the British Solomon Islands campaign (including Guadalcanal) as part of the initial Allied offensive. O'Harrow’s service spanned the most significant battles of the Pacific, including Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Air Medal, indicating he was wounded in action and distinguished himself during flight-related operations, likely as a crewman or aerial observer in a Marine observation or transport squadron.
