Swastika w/Arrows --> Native American Whirling Log - Appears to be Nazi Swastika w/Arrows --> actually Native American Whirling Log Pendant. Very good condition. Shape strongly resembles Nazi swastika it is a Whirling Log (Nahothis) In Navajo (Dine) culture this sacred symbol represents the 4 directions, the rotation of the Big Dipper constellation, and a cultural narrative of healing and good luck. The stamped arrows running along the arms of the log signify protection, speed, and direction. Because the Nazi regime co-opted the swastika shape in the 1930s 4 major Southwest Native American tribes (Navajo, Hopi, Apache, and Tohono O'odham) signed a formal decree in 1940 permanently banning the use of the Whirling Log on their commercial artwork and jewelry. Because of the 1940 ban pieces featuring this symbol are likely pre-WWII produced during the ”Fred Harvey Era” between 1910-late 1930s to be sold to tourists along the Santa Fe railroad lines. It is stamped Sterling on the reverse side. It is non-magnetic. 2.75” long, 1.5” wide. Please see photos.
