WWII German NSDAP Flag - Nazi Party Flag. Good condition with tears. Features swastika on a white circle against a red background. The design and adoption of the Nazi flag (Hakenkreuzflagge) evolved from a political party banner into Germany's sole national symbol through phases: 1. Creation and Symbolism 1920 when Hitler decided the newly formed National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) needed an effective poster-like insignia. He designed the flag using the black (symbolized the mission of struggle for the victory of the Aryan man, and anti-Semitic ideology), white (represented nationalistic ideals), & red (represented social ideas of the movement) color scheme of the old German Imperial flag. In Mein Kampf he assigned specific ideological meanings to each element.; 2. Dual National Flags: shortly after Hitler was appointed Chancellor March1933 the Weimar Republic's black,-red-gold flag was scraped & the regime established a dual flag policy 1933 where the Nazi party flag was flown alongside the traditional black-white-red horizontal tricolor of the old German Empire. 3. 15Sep1935the dual flag policy ended with the passage of the Nuremberg Laws & instituted the Nazi flag as the sole National Flag of Germany. Following the defeat of the Axis powers in 1945 the Allied Control Council banned the flag and displaying it is illegal under strict criminal codes in Germany, Austria, and several other European countries. 32” wide, 44” long.
