Bidspirit auction | Civil War 1863 US Ames

Civil War 1863 US Ames Model 1860 Staff Sword ADK - Authentic American Civil War era Model 1860 Staff and Field Officer’s sword, a prestigious pattern produced during the height of the conflict. The ricasso features the crisp, desirable ”Ames Mfg Co. Chicopee” maker's mark on one side, while the reverse is stamped with ”U.S.”, the inspector initials ”ADK” (A.D. King), and the date ”1863.” The hilt is distinguished by its ornate brass guard with a fixed double-oval shell and a grip wrapped in tight, decorative brass wire. The straight, diamond-section blade is characteristic of early-war Ames production. Condition is objectively good for its age, showing a rich, natural patina on the brass and honest oxidation and dark spotting across the blade surface; the leather hilt washer remains intact but shows expected drying. H 38.5”, W 3.5”, D 2.5”. See photos.
