WWII German Eastern Front Medals ”Frozen Meat” - 3 WWII German Eastern Front Medals (Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 – Winter Battle in the East 1941/42 Medal). Good condition. Soldiers referred to the medal as the Ostmedaille (East Medal) nicknamed the “Frozen Meat Medal” (Gefrierfleischorden) due to the brutal winter conditions required to earn it. Instituted by Adolf Hitler 26May1942 to recognize military personnel and volunteers who served on the Eastern Front during the bitter winter campaign 15Nov1941 – 15April1942. The colors of the ribbon: red represents blood, white represents snow, and the thin black center stripe represents mourning for fallen comrades. Inscription on the back reads WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42 (Winter Battle in the East 1941/42). 4.25” long, 1.5” wide; 3.75” long, 1.5” wide; 7” long, 1.5” wide. Please see photos.
