The medal on the left front is the Order of the Patriotic War or the Great Patriotic War as WWII is known in the USSR. Postcards like this were produced across the USSR for patriotic holidays such as Victory Day 09May and Defender of the Fatherland Day (23Feb, historically known as Soviet Army and Navy Day). Classified as an unofficial public or veteran organization medal rather then an official state decoration. Has official Ministry of Defense Medal 3.5” long, 2” wide. document 5.75” long, 4” wide. 3. Soviet Medal For the Defence of Odessa. Good condition, in thin plastic bags. Established 22Dec1942 to recognize the military personnel and civilians who helped sustain the 73 day stand against Axis for the Siege of Odessa Aug-Oct1941. This version was issued by Sazhi Umalatova a Soviet politician who following the dissolution of the USSR Dec1991 established an unrecognized political body called the Permanent Presidium of the Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR. This organization made its own WWII versions of decorations 1994-200s. Medal 3.5” long, 2” wide. Document 6.25” long, 4.25” wide. 4. Soviet Medal For the Defence of the Soviet Transarctic. Good condition in thin plastic bags. Established 095Dec1944 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Given to all military personnel (Red Army, Navy, and NKVD troops) and civilian who took part in defending the Soviet Arctic against Axis forces June1941-Nov1944. This is a post-Soviet Umalatova reissue (see above). Medal 3.25” long, 2” wide, document 6.25” long, 4.25” wide. 5. Soviet WWII Medal For the Defence of Kiev. Good condition in this plastic bags. Established 21June1961. Stalin refused to approve it Khrushchev approved it to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the German invasion. Awarded to Red Army soldiers, naval personnel, NKVD troops, local people's militia, and citizens who helped July-Sep1941.
