Bidspirit auction | WWII Pilot & Navigator Wings
WWII Pilot & Navigator Wings & ATC Discs (6) - This significant grouping of World War II-era aviation militaria features full-size Sterling silver Pilot wings and Navigator wings, the latter featuring the celestial globe center. A standout inclusion is the pair of Sterling silver and enamel Air Transport Command (ATC) discs; both are clearly hallmarked Levelle & Co. of Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, a prestigious maker of high-end military insignia. These discs represent the specialized personnel responsible for the global ferry and transport missions crucial to the Allied victory. Also included are two pairs of brass ”prop and wings” collar insignias. The items display a beautiful, uncleaned patina and minor surface wear typical of vintage silver; the enamel on the ATC discs is exceptionally clean, though one disc is noted to be missing one of its two clutch back fasteners.
