US M1902 Army Officer’s Saber - Germany - This is a classic United States Model 1902 Army Officer's Saber, a pattern adopted for all officers (except chaplains) and still used for ceremonial purposes today. This specific example was manufactured in Germany for export to the U.S. market, a common practice between 1902 and the late 1930s. The ”GERMANY” stamp on the ricasso and the etched ”U.S.” and American Eagle motifs on the blade are hallmarks of these high-quality imports, often produced by Solingen firms like Eickhorn or WKC for American retailers. The saber features a three-branch nickel-plated guard and a black composition finger-grooved grip, typical of the inter-war period. It includes its original steel scabbard and a gold-tone fabric sword knot (portepee). The blade exhibits significant surface oxidation, darkening, and pitting throughout the etched areas, while the hilt and scabbard show plating loss and a heavy aged patina; the grip remains structurally sound with heavy patina and wear.
