WWI Helmet Pair. 5th DIV, 27th DIV - A pair of World War I US M1917 steel “Doughboy” helmets constructed of stamped manganese steel, featuring distinctive hand-painted unit insignia on the front—one displaying a red diamond and the other the red-and-black constellation insignia of the 27th Infantry Division (U.S. Army, World War I) featuring a red circle forming the letter ”O” for Orion, seven red stars, and the ”NYD” monogram for the New York Division set on a black field. Both helmets retain their original interior leather liners and oilcloth components but lack their leather chinstraps, exhibiting surface oxidation, paint wear, rust patina, and typical fraying to the cloth and leather suspension systems consistent with age and field use in ”salty” shape.
