Civil War GAR Medal Grouping Named 60th NY - This significant grouping of American Civil War veteran memorabilia features a Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) bronze star membership medal, a vibrant enameled GAR lapel star, and a ”Our Nation's Defenders” commemorative medal with a tri-color ribbon. The highlight of this set is the personalized engraving on the reverse of the enameled star: ”A-60-N.Y. Oct-21-61 June-23-65 Albert E. Lytle.” This identifies the piece to a soldier of the 60th New York Infantry (The ”St. Lawrence Regiment”). Lytle served nearly the entire duration of the war. The 60th NY saw heavy action in the Eastern Theater (Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg) before transferring West to participate in the Lookout Mountain and the Atlanta Campaign. The other two medals are struck in bronze and brass, one with silk ribbon and bronze clasp. The items show honest age-related patina; the ribbon on the circular medal is marginally soiled, commensurate with age, while the metal components remain structurally sound with legible engravings and crisp relief details.
