Spanish War Veterans Medal & Certificate Named - This historically significant veteran’s grouping consists of an original United Spanish War Veterans (USWV) membership medal and its corresponding 1937 transfer certificate. The bronze medal features the characteristic eagle-and-wreath pin, a 13-star silk ribbon, and a cross-pendant commemorating service in Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Critically, the reverse of the suspension is stamped with serial 69106, which is tied via the included provenance to Arthur J. Buell. The document tracks Buell’s 1898 enlistment in Illinois and his later fraternal activities in Nevada and Oregon. The inclusion of the original paperwork provides a rare biographical bridge for a serialized medal that would otherwise be anonymous. The bronze has a deep, untouched patina; however, the silk ribbon is frayed and delicate. The certificate shows standard age-toning and original fold lines but remains fully legible.
