Bidspirit auction | M1910 RIA Canteen & Militia

M1910 RIA Canteen & Militia Snake Belt - M1910 RIA Canteen & Militia Snake Belt This lot features a rare, first-year production Model 1910 infantry canteen, clearly stamped ”R.I.A. 1910” for the Rock Island Arsenal. As an inaugural pattern, this round-body canvas design is a cornerstone of early 20th-century U.S. militaria. It is accompanied by a 32-inch leather utility belt with a distinctive white metal snake buckle, a design used during the Civil War but more commonly found in this finish on Spanish-American War and state militia gear. The canteen is in relic condition with several significant flaws: approximately 75% of the perimeter stitching has failed, there is a visible cut through the ”U.S.” stencil, and the original stopper (cork/cap) and wire hook hardware are missing. The leather belt shows heavy surface cracking and verdigris on the metal, but the buckle remains functional. H 8”, W 8”, D 2.7” (Canteen); H 1.75”, W 32” (Belt). Please see photos for condition.
