WWII Trench Art Japanese Type 99 Aerial Bomb - This unique piece of WWII Pacific Theater trench art features the sleek, aerodynamic form of a Japanese Type 99 No. 3 aerial bomb model mounted to a heavy brass shell-casing base. Unlike standard infantry ordnance, the elongated body and distinct fin configuration are characteristic of Japanese naval aerial munitions. The construction is primarily brass and copper, accented by a silver-toned nose cone and a steel spacer visible between the tail fins. The underside of the ashtray base is rich with history, bearing clear Japanese kanji, factory insignias, and the ”Showa 17” ($1942$) date stamp. This relic remains in impressive condition, showing a deep, authentic patina throughout, with minor surface oxidation on the steel portion and light handling wear to the brass surfaces.
