USS Barb Cmdr Eugene Fluckey MOH Documents - This offering is a poignant collection of artifacts related to the legendary Commander Eugene B. Fluckey, one of the most highly decorated submariners in U.S. history and commanding officer of the USS Barb (SS-220), and compiled by collector John Bannister. The centerpiece includes two historical prints: a striking color print of Fluckey's Medal of Honor, awarded for his daring actions in the Pacific Theatre, and a dramatic black and white image of the USS Barb 's famous battle flag (known as a Jolly Roger) . This flag meticulously records the 12 ships the Barb sank (including the one Fluckey’s team blew up on land) with the addition of a Japanese Imperial Army flag (denoting the famous train attack). These prints are both hand-signed by Commander Fluckey, with the Barb flag print noting his service dates on the vessel. Accompanying the prints are three personal, handwritten notes also signed by Fluckey, each addressed to a person named ”John” and offering thanks and correspondence, providing a truly unique, personal glimpse into the Commander’s later life. The collection is in overall Excellent condition; the paper prints show sharp colors and clear text with minimal visible edge wear, and the handwritten notes are well-preserved with clear ink signatures, though they show the creases from being folded for mailing.
