WWI US M1915 Colt-Vickers Ammo Chest - This is a rare and highly desirable WWI-era ammunition chest specifically manufactured for the Model 1915 Colt-Vickers machine gun. Among US military wooden boxes, this specimen is significantly rarer than the ubiquitous M1917 Browning boxes, as the Colt-Vickers was produced in much smaller quantities and largely phased out of US service shortly after the Great War. The box features period-correct finger-jointed construction, a recessed lid for stable stacking, and heavy-duty brass hardware. Its weathered olive drab finish shows a deep, authentic patina with significant ”alligatoring” and finish loss. The piece is in as-found condition with a 3” vertical crack in the wood near the brass lid latch. The original leather handle is present but notably compromised by advanced red rot and surface degradation. H 8”, W 4.75”, D 15.25” Please see photos for condition.
