1899 U.S. Army and Navy Book - Published in 1899 by The Werner Company of Akron, Ohio, this comprehensive historical volume is titled The United States Army and Navy: Their Histories, from the Era of the Revolution to the Close of the Spanish-American War. Authored by Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur L. Wagner and Commander J. Jerrold Kelley, the massive book features ornate gilt lettering, decorative embossed leatherette-style covers, and a color-illustrated front panel depicting military scenes alongside an American eagle and shield emblem. The volume presents water staining on the pages, while the front and back covers show notable surface wear, creasing, and edge fraying, with peeling along the interior paste-downs. Despite these cosmetic flaws, nearly all the interior pages are bound tightly and firmly, the color-plates remain vibrant and clean, and the structural binding stays mostly intact.
