Bidspirit auction | Regina Style 40 Rookwood Case
Regina Style 40 Rookwood Case Console Music Box - The Regina Style 40 Console Music Box featuring a Rookwood finish was produced by the Regina Music Box Company of Rahway New Jersey between 1904 and 1910. In the official Regina catalog, the ”Rookwood” cabinet was offered as a luxurious premium option. Instead of typical wood inlay or decal work, these cabinets feature elaborate, hand-painted artwork depicting 18th-century classical scenes. Because of the intense manual labor required to paint each case, very few were sold, making original Rookwood finishes incredibly rare today. The original finish case on this machine is as nice as you will ever find. It has a court scene on the front and landscapes on the sides. The mechanism features a double comb short bedplate with no broken, chipped, or repaired teeth. It has a zither attachment on the comb and plays 15.5” discs. Includes an original crank. It winds and plays beautifully and stops at the completion of the disc. The Style 40 features a handsome, serpentine-front console shape resting on cabriole legs. The lower half features double doors opening automatically or in unison to reveal a built-in slide-out caddy or tray system designed to hold up to 150 discs. The hand decorated floral had a seam split in the wood but it is not warped and does not affect opening or closing. The inside of the lid retains the Regina label as well as the celluloid tags for operation. The seldom seen tag for the Regina Music Box Co. shows a salesroom at 259 Wabash Ave. Chicago. Included is 50 discs all in good playing condition. Measures 40” tall, 22.5” wide, 20.75” deep. From the Trenga collection. Customer pickup or 3rd party transporter only on this item.
