Bidspirit auction | Columbia B Eagle Cylinder Phonograph
Columbia B Eagle Cylinder Phonograph - The Columbia Model B cylinder phonograph, known as the ”Eagle”, was introduced in 1897 by the Columbia Phonograph Co.. Originally retailing for just $10, it was engineered as an affordable, mass-market machine designed to compete directly with Thomas Edison's early phonographs. It earned its famous nickname ”Eagle” because a $10 gold coin at the time was legally designated as an ”Eagle” coin. This all original machine features a distinctive ”open works” or skeletonized brass and nickel-plated mechanism, allowing users to watch the gears turn. Powered by a robust double-spring motor wound by a butterfly key on the side of the mechanism. It plays standard 2-minute brown wax or early black wax cylinders. The machine winds and runs but has NO REPRODUCER. The original finish cover has a good Columbia decal. Comes with an original 10.75” nickel plated horn. Measured 11.75” wide, 7” deep, 6.5” tall. From the Trenga collection.
