Bidspirit auction | Vanophone Disc Phonograph

Vanophone Disc Phonograph - The Vanophone was first introduced around 1915. Marketed as the ”Latest Wonder in Phonographs” for a modest price of $12. The machine was originally marketed by the Otto Heinemann Phonograph Supply Company of New York. It was built under contract by the Garford Manufacturing Company in Elyria, Ohio. The Vanophone was a ”hornless” machine. Instead of relying on an external horn or a hollow wooden cabinet, it was engineered so that the heavy, hollow cast-iron body of the phonograph acted as the horn. This example is in fair condition. The original reproducer has been replaced with a Victor Exhibition reproducer. The paint is good. The original Vanophone decal is on the winding side. The machine winds but will not run on its own so the motor needs servicing (not a broken spring). Measures 13” wide, 11” deep, 8” tall. From the Trenga collection.
