19th-C. Double-Barrel Vacuum Pump Set Lot - This remarkable complete 19th-century double-barrel laboratory vacuum pump apparatus stands as a phenomenal testament to Victorian-era scientific exploration. Beautifully constructed with heavy brass cylinders, a rack-and-pinion crank mechanism, and structural mahogany pillars, this university-grade demonstration set includes its massive hand-blown glass bell jar and an array of period demonstration attachments: a 5” diameter glass globe fixture with brass fittings, and a two-piece Magdeburg hemisphere set measuring 10.5” long with a 4” total lip diameter. While the mechanical crank handles move smoothly back and forth, the pump does not currently draw a vacuum or engage the glass dome mechanism. The main bell jar has a minor top knob chip that has been ground down safely smooth, the wood and brass show a beautiful, authentic aged patina with light surface wear, dust, and minor handling scuffs consistent with age, and the attachments show typical oxidation to the brass components. Total base footprint measures approximately 12” wide by 17” long, or 24” long when accounting for the additional 7” handle protrusion, with an overall height of 14.75”. H 14.75”, W 12”, D 24”.
