Bidspirit auction | Bausch & Lomb Professional Brass
Bausch & Lomb Professional Brass Microscope - This late 19th-century monocular microscope, manufactured by Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. of Rochester, NY, is a premier ”Professional” model bearing patent dates of October 3, 1876, and October 13, 1885. The instrument features a heavy ”Y” shaped tripod base, rack-and-pinion coarse adjustment, and a micrometer fine adjustment. This exceptionally complete set is housed in its original mahogany case with a sturdy fixed metal handle and interior storage for a full suite of optics. The included hardware consists of three brass-encased objectives (2 in, 2/3 in, and 1/2 in), two ocular eyepieces, and a rare ”First Class” objective with a graduated correction collar. The set is further enhanced by specialized slides from I.D. Möller of Wedel/Holstein, world-renowned for precision diatom arrangements. The brass retains a rich, authentic patina with minor spotting; the mahogany case shows age-related surface wear and a pushed-out back panel that is easily repairable, but otherwise remains structurally sound with a functional lock and key.
